Traditionally used in East Asian Medicine to relieve symptoms of a common cold and flu, and the associated primary indications of a sore throat with no thirst, no general aches and pains, and no sweating; and the secondary indications of an aversion to coldness, or mild fever, or nausea, or loss of appetite, or tiredness and fatigue, or reduce the occurrence of headaches associated with a common cold and flu pattern.

Bupleurum Root 24g, Scutellaria Root 9g, Ginseng Root 9g, Prepared Pinellia 9g, Fresh Ginger Root 9g, Honey-Fried Licorice Root 9g, Chinese Red Date 9g.
Take 3 capsules three times daily between meals.

In both formulas, thirst remains normal or absent. However, once sweating and generalised body aches are present, this indicates involvement of the surface layer, and Cold & Flu 2.0 becomes the appropriate selection, with the addition of Cinnamon Twig and White Peony Root.

Cold & Flu 3.0 is indicated where there is pronounced thirst, sweating, and generalised aches and pains. These combined features define a distinct formula–disease pattern requiring a specific herbal structure.


In contrast, Cold & Flu 1.0 presents with normal to no thirst, no sweating, and no generalised aches and pains. The absence of these key indicators clearly distinguishes it from Blend 3.0 and indicates a different formula structure is required.
